pay-it-forward

at the start of this new year, a sweet high school friend of mine i've had the pleasure of reconnecting with thanks to facebook posted that she was participating in a pay-it-forward project. to the first five people who responded to her status update, she would send a small token of friendship anytime during the year. in turn, all who responded would post the message on their page and do the same for five more of their friends. it's always fun to receive some mail love, something that is NOT electronic. i was in!

it's already april. AAUGH! but i haven't forgotten. in fact, i've been busy working on my friendship gifts for the past few weeks. after finally making myself a version of prayer or peace flags that i'm ready to hang in my yard as soon as the hubby puts up some hooks for me, i decided these would be perfect...handmade with love.

i've since made three more sets. i chose colors and fabrics that reminded me of the recipient. and i'm going to include a bottle of fabric paint that each one may write their own words/blessings on their flags if they so choose. tee suggested that. i thought it was a wonderful idea.

one set has already been mailed off.  two more are pictured here with mine.

can you tell that mine is the flamingos?

i've made my flags double sided, pretty from either direction, and sewed them with sweet decorative stitches. this photo shows the "backside" of one. the fold is actually pretty cute, too.

i strung some on braided trim i found at hobby lobby, but then picked up a nice, big roll of twine at lowe's. i tack my flags down to the twine so when they're hung they won't slouch or shift in the wind. and, yes, i plan to leave mine out. i want them to fade and fray, sending my blessings to the heavens, just like the tibetan prayer flags. read a description here.

this morning i wanted a little something more to include with flags going to the kind woman who inspired me to do this. i made my first mug rugs from the same fabrics as her flags.

as soon as i jot down a note on a card i've tangled, i'll be ready to bundle everything up and send this package on its way.

my heart knows warm moments...

...for the kindness of friends.

i can't tell you how wonderful it was to receive this delightful wonky star and sweet season's greetings from Stephanie yesterday. visit with her at Jonquils and Ladybugs for creative goodness and inspiration to a homemade life. thank you, Stephanie, for your kindness, your support, your person good and peaceful. i share this warm moment with all who visit here as a way to extend my own greetings and thanks for wonderful friends and as a means of reflection on the beautiful people that i've known throughout my life. may we all receive and give kindness in quiet gestures, handmade with love.

just what i've been waiting for

i'm so excited! the fab fabric has arrived from a funky new line by one of my favorite designers that i intend to choose from for a bag swap with the amazingly talented Stephanie (pop on over to her blog and visit her terrific photos on flickr). here's just a sneak peek, but i promise details after i've finished and my package has been mailed, delivered & received. it's been a while since i've been at the sewing table. this is the inspiration i've been waiting for and i'm sew ready to get back at it.

hope everyone is enjoying a terrific july, near and far. make the absolute best of it in perfect celebration of your interests and passions.

jeepers peepers

i've been sewing, every day this week, even today. and i've pictures. it's been soooo much fun working on this little project, start to finish, from the invitation to the fabric and to something of a greeting. all that's left is a pretty package. snail mail love.

but i can't show you anything, right now, except little bits & pieces of the fabric i used. for now. until my friend receives what i have made for her. in swap. i've left a few hints, around cyberworld. i hope she doesn't mind. :)

i feel like a little kid, wringing my hands. because it's the simple, beautiful things, like sharing "creative endeavors" that makes me crazy happy.

be happy today, too!

mail love

much to my delight, this little earth retro eight pack of fat quarters was delivered to me yesterday, a "thinking about you" gift from my sister, who recently took a sewing class, too, and picked this out for me at the shop where she received instruction. it's so sweet. and so good to slow down, send and receive a little mail love, in this online, instant communication techno fad world.

give a little love. receive a little love. this weekend. it's all good. peace out!
